2014 ILACHE Scholarship Winners
We thank the students who applied for the ILACHE scholarship and want to congratulate this winners of the 2014 ILACHE Scholarship, Melissa Morales and Gabriela Guaderrama. We wish all of the applicants much success as they pursue their college degrees. Melissa and Gabriela will be recognized at the ILACHE Conference at Northeastern Illinois University on Friday, April 24, 2015. Melissa Morales is a third year student at the University of
Illinois Chicago pursuing a major in Biological Sciences and Pre-Med. She graduated from Lane Tech H.S. in Chicago.
She is committed to raising awareness
about health issues in the Latino community.
Her commitment to education and community is evidences by her volunteer
work at Fiesta del Sol where she contributed in a team effort to raise
awareness about Diabetes. Additionally, she is an active member of the Health
Oriented Latino Association at UIC and volunteers at the Illinois Advocate
Masonic Medical Center and at the Ann & Robert H. Lurie’s Children
Hospital.

| Gabriela Guaderrama |
Gabriela Guaderrama attended J. Sterling Morton East High
School – Cicero, IL and intends to enroll at University of Illinois at
Urbana-Champaign. While she is currently
undecided about the program of study that she will pursue, Gabriela is strongly
considering a degree in Natural Resource Sciences. Her interest in the natural
sciences was ignited by volunteer work in efforts of conservation of wild life
and natural resources at the Brookfield Zoo.
At the Brookfield Zoo, Gabriela was charged with engaging young children
and families in activities and discussions about conserving endangered species,
valuing the natural world, and boycotting products containing palm oil. Additionally, she volunteers at the Ronald
McDonald House.

HSF Scholarships Application Period September 1 to December 15, 2014
Description
HSF/ General College Scholarships are designed to assist students of Hispanic heritage obtain a college degree. Scholarships are available on a competitive basis to:- Graduating High School Seniors
- Community College Students
- Community College Transfer Students
- Undergraduate Students
- Graduate Students
Awards
Award amounts generally range from $1,000 to $5,000.Eligibility Requirements
- Be of Hispanic heritage
- Be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident with a permanent resident card or passport stamped I-551 (not expired) or be granted Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA)
- Have a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
- Have plans to enroll FULL-TIME at a U.S. accredited college or university in the U.S., Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands or Guam during the 2014-2015 academic year
- Must apply for federal financial aid by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) in 2014. DACA applicants must submit household income information.
- Be pursuing first undergraduate or graduate degree
- Upload a photograph (headshot) of yourself for your profile. *Please upload a maximum photo size of 3MB in JPG or PNG format
