Illinois State University is currently seeking candidates for The Transitioning Paraprofessionals into Teachers of English Learners programs. These are federally funded programs designed to assist bilingual paraprofessionals become fully certified bilingual and ESL teachers. Successful student participants will earn a B.S. Ed. degree in elementary education with bilingual and ESL approvals.
The programs bring Illinois State University curriculum and professors to the University Center of Lake County Campuses in Grayslake and Waukegan. The schedule is designed to allow participants to continue working while taking classes. Tuition is free for candidates accepted into the program.
Candidates interested in applying to the program must: Attend an information meeting Have an AA degree (or its equivalent) that meets Illinois State University’s general education requirements Have at least a 2.5 GPA Have a passing score on the Illinois Certification Test of Academic Proficiency (TAP) Be a bilingual paraprofessional or teacher’s aide Commit to teach in a high-needs school district for 3 years
